Melrose Hall, also known as the Kreienkamp Store, is a historical site in Wildwood, Missouri. They wanted an informational website that would be used to educate people on the history of the building while also building a space for the community to share and enjoy local stories.
Challenge—
Design a branding package and build a functional, responsive website to both educate and be used by the community.
Solution—
Work with inspiration from the historical site to build branding that resonates with the community.
Create a simple, easy to use interface that can be accessed on both desktop and mobile.
Tools—
Illustrator
InDesign
WordPress
Clip Studio Paint

One of the most important parts of this project was to design a logo. I utilized the moodboards and information given to me by the client to create a variety of sketches. While the initial request was to feature the building itself, we decided it would be best to simplify for the client's overall needs. So, instead, we focused on another aspect of the building: the signage. The oval shaped signs are a stample to the building and the perfect option to work off of.
Design
To ensure that the branding stays consistant, I created branding guidelines to use as a reference. Since this was created for a website, there are some web assets such as the buttons and favicon.
Here are some screenshot previews of primary sections of the homepage.
To give a better understanding of how the building has looked over the years, I added an interactive slider with both a picture from the past and from the present day.
Reflection
It was a great experience to work with the clients to build a place for the community. While there was a lot to learn, the hands-on approach was extremely helpful.
Project Takeaways—
Working closely with a client to understand what they both want and need is very beneficial to the project
Using your resources is important when there is an issue. More often than not, someone has had the same issue and there is already a solution to find.
